Join Us Working in Our Offices
Washington, D.C.
Garvey Schubert Barer's D.C. office is on the Georgetown waterfront overlooking the Potomac River in an historic building that once was a flour mill. Our location affords us a really pleasant work environment which is close to the commercial core of the city, federal government and the courts. We are also just minutes from the rapidly growing Northern Virginia technology corridor.
Our office has the benefit of being supported by a robust, administrative infrastructure in Seattle, but doesn't suffer from heavy-handed central control. With over 40 employees, the office is large enough to take on a variety of interesting legal work, but small enough to be a friendly and comfortable work environment. Our clients span the globe and range from technology startups to multinational corporations. We also represent a variety of trade associations and government entities.
The D.C. office practice is multi-dimensional, including many federal administrative practice areas, government relations and lobbying as well as litigation and commercial transactions. Administrative law practices include: communications, transportation, government contracts, international trade, environmental, pesticide regulation, consumer product regulation (such as food, drugs and cosmetics and motor vehicle regulation), natural resources and conservation, federal election and ethics, export and foreign asset controls among others. We have a growing transactional practice that focuses on technology businesses. Our litigation group includes experienced trial lawyers and handles litigation involving commercial disputes, employment matters, white-collar criminal defense and litigation against the government. Our government relations and lobbying practice provides strategic advice, analysis and advocacy on behalf of a variety of domestic and international clients including trade associations, corporations, government entities and new economy ventures.
A number of our lawyers have served in senior positions in the federal government including senior positions at the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Transportation, Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and Commodities Futures Trading Commission.
Garvey Schubert Barer has an advanced technology infrastructure which enables the firm to connect its five offices and to communicate with its clients smoothly and quickly.
Our firm endeavors to combine positive values and a supportive, comfortable work environment with first-rate, client-oriented legal services. Garvey Schubert Barer has been, since its inception over 40 years ago, less hierarchical and more diverse than many law firms. Our continuing commitment to attract lawyers and staff who combine good character, pleasant personalities and strong skills has enabled us to grow the office dramatically in recent years.
We try to balance the requirements of demanding law practice with our employee's desire to lead a full life outside of the office. For example, Garvey Schubert Barer has a sabbatical program available to all employees. We strive to help everyone meet his or her potential. All employees from associates to paralegals to administrative staff serve on firm committees that govern the firm's daily life and implement management plans and policies. Our firm encourages its associates to take an active interest in matters that affect the firm as a whole with the hope that each associate will eventually be an owner in the firm.
In sum, Garvey Schubert Barer provides first-rate legal services in a work environment that employees at all levels can feel good about. We strive to make everyone's experience a positive one that leads to substantial career and personal growth.
Law students and lawyers should contact our Managing Director, Matt Schneider. Candidates for staff positions should contact our Office Manager, Renée Alston.
