Addition of Joseph Arellano and two other members of KWA bolsters Garvey Schubert Barer’s complex commercial litigation, securities litigation and professional liability capabilities
PORTLAND, Ore. (January 3, 2017) Garvey Schubert Barer (GSB) today announced the expansion of its litigation group with the addition of three members of the Portland-based law firm of Kennedy Watts Arellano, including name partner Joseph Arellano. Arellano joins GSB as an owner; Daniel Keppler joins as Of Counsel and Matthew Yium joins as an Associate; all three are based in GSB’s Portland office.
GSB's Portland litigators represent clients in the Pacific Northwest as well as nationally in a wide range of cases, including complex business disputes, securities litigation, white-collar criminal defense and regulatory investigations. This addition strengthens the firm’s commercial litigation, securities litigation and professional liability capabilities.
Arellano has more than 35 years of litigation and trial experience in state and federal court, as well as arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association and FINRA. He is a member of the prestigious, invitation-only, American College of Trial Lawyers. Arellano’s practice emphasizes complex civil litigation, including securities, commercial, and tort litigation, as well as professional liability defense. He has successfully represented lawyers and law firms in multi-million dollar professional negligence trials and securities-related trials including investigations by the SEC, DOJ, IRS, FBI and their state counterparts. He earned his J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College.
“GSB has developed a position as one of the leading commercial litigation teams in the Northwest,” said Arellano. “I’ve worked alongside them as co-counsel on many cases in my career, and it’s wonderful to now be working on the same team.”
Keppler’s practice includes complex business litigation, securities litigation, professional malpractice, class action litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He has represented law firms, attorneys, medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations and is licensed to practice in Oregon and Washington. He earned his J.D. from Gonzaga University.
Yium’s practice is devoted to civil litigation and appeals, with a focus on professional malpractice defense, securities, products liability, and business litigation. His experience reaches every stage of litigation, including jury trials, arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, motion practice, and appellate work in state and federal court. He earned his J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College.
“Joe and his team are a great addition to our existing group of outstanding attorneys,” said Eric Lindenauer, managing director of GSB’s Portland office. “He is recognized as one of Oregon’s top litigation attorneys, and we’re thrilled that he and his team will continue their practices as part of Garvey Schubert Barer.”
