| Venus and Serena Williams Garvey Schubert Barer has represented these tennis stars since they were 8 and 9 years old. Over the years we have assisted them with legal matters regarding trademark protection, litigation, real estate, general business, intellectual property, and negotiation of the terms of endorsement contracts. In the early days of Internet litigation, we went to court to stop infringers from using their names as domain names on the Internet. More recently, we represented Serena Williams in an arbitration that upheld her position on the 2000 U.S. Olympic tennis team against a challenge by a tennis player who was not selected for the team.

| PeaceHealth
A healthcare system with hospitals and other facilities in several different cities in Washington, Oregon and Alaska, PeaceHealth has been a client of the firm for many years. Serving as general outside counsel, we assist PeaceHealth on matters as diverse as acquisition of hospitals, issuance of tax-exempt bonds, labor negotiations, joint ventures, and construction litigation. We typically staff larger transactions and cases with lawyers from both our Seattle and Portland offices. Not only does this approach take advantage of the full range of the firm's healthcare experience, it also is convenient for PeaceHealth, which has its home office near Seattle but the majority of its facilities near Portland.

| MirCorp
This client is a Netherlands joint venture of American investors and RSC Energia, the privatized Russian company that operates the Mir space station. Our lawyers crafted the agreement that allows MirCorp to use the orbiting space station for commercial purposes.

| Representation of Fortune 500 Employers
We have defended class action lawsuits asserting wage-and-hour claims against Fortune 500 companies in the fast food and retail industries. In one case we negotiated a successful resolution without filing an answer to the complaint. In another we contested class members' claims in numerous individual hearings on a store-by-store basis. We have also represented a third Fortune 500 employer in several cases involving such claims as: breach of a covenant not to compete, breach of a confidentiality agreement, failure to pay employee stock options, defamation and trade libel.

| Tax Appeals for Fortune 500 Manufacturers
We have represented several Fortune 500 companies in successful appeals of multi-million dollar property tax assessments against significant manufacturing facilities located in the Pacific Northwest.
