The topic on everyone’s mind is how to plan for housing affordability.  In April, the City Club set forth recommendations for the City of Portland, and shortly after, the Portland Business Alliance sued the City of Portland and Mayor Hales for allowing the homeless population to sleep in the public right-of-way.  The Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association recently held an Affordable Housing Workshop, and Housing Land Advocates and the Fair Housing Council of Oregon have an active Goal 10 project.  It is time for the Euclid Society to continue the conversation in the planning context.

Some of the topics we hope to discuss include:

  • Recent developments in the legal context of affirmatively furthering fair housing - Avenue 6E Investments, LLC v. City of Yuma, 2016 WL 1169080 (9th Cir.) and Garden City decision;
  • Exploration of whether the City of Portland has any defenses to the Portland Business Alliance lawsuit; and
  • We also look forward to a brainstorming session on how we can plan for an Oregon for everyone.
