SEATTLE, October 30, 2007 – Garvey Schubert Barer is pleased to announce that Brian DeSoto and Jamal N. Whitehead have joined the firm's Seattle office Litigation Group as associates.

Brian DeSoto, an associate in the Seattle office, focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation. He earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2001, where he was Articles Editor and on the Managing Board of the Oregon Law Review. He earned his A.B. in American History and Literature from Harvard College, cum laude, in 1995. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. DeSoto represented individuals and corporate clients in a wide variety of high-stakes litigation and commercial bankruptcy matters. He has devoted considerable time to pro bono projects, including work for the Northwest Women's Law Center and the King County Bar Association's neighborhood law clinics. He is admitted to practice in Washington, before the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Washington, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit.
Jamal N. Whitehead, an associate in the Seattle office, practices in the area of litigation. He earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2007, with a focus in Civil Advocacy. While at Seattle University School of Law, he was inducted into the Order of the Barristers. During law school, Mr. Whitehead also worked in the Ronald A. Peterson Law Clinic in which he represented clients in predatory lending matters related to home mortgages, debt collection, and other unfair lending practices. He earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington in 2004, where he was a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society. He has been a board member of the Northwest Defender Association since 2006, and a member of the Loren Miller Bar Association since 2005. He is admitted to practice in Washington.
