Experienced and proven attorneys boost the firm’s bankruptcy and creditors’ rights capabilities in Oregon and Washington
PORTLAND, Ore. (January 15, 2019) Garvey Schubert Barer (GSB) today announced that two bankruptcy attorneys have joined the firm as Principals in the Portland office. Tara Schleicher and Jason Ayres will join GSB’s Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights and Litigation Practice Groups, where they will focus on assisting clients in bankruptcy proceedings, commercial insolvencies and business disputes.
Schleicher is an experienced negotiator and litigator whose practice includes bankruptcy, creditors' rights and commercial litigation. Her background encompasses all aspects of complex Chapter 11s, receiverships, workouts and other insolvency issues, including adversary proceedings and contested matters. Prior to joining GSB, Schleicher was a shareholder at Farleigh Wada Witt where she practiced for more than two decades and served as Chair of the firm’s Commercial Insolvency Group for over 10 years. Her experience includes representing clients in numerous arbitration proceedings and trials in both Oregon and Washington in state and federal courts. Schleicher has also litigated a diverse array of cases including bankruptcy proceedings, receivership cases (both federal and state), commercial, employment and real estate disputes.
Schleicher holds an M.B.A. in addition to a J.D. from Willamette University College of Law and is certified as a Business Bankruptcy Specialist by the American Board of Certification. She has been selected to the Oregon Super Lawyers list for Bankruptcy Law since 2008 as well as to the Best Lawyers in America list for Litigation—Bankruptcy, Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law since 2016. Additionally, Schleicher was named to Oregon Super Lawyers’ Top 25 Women list (2013-2017) and its Top 50 Lawyers list (2014-2015). She is a board member of the Turnaround Management Association.
Ayres has extensive experience supporting commercial lenders, small businesses and equipment lease and finance companies in litigation, bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings. This experience includes litigation and insolvency matters involving agricultural lending and workouts.
Prior to joining GSB, Ayres also worked at Farleigh Wada Witt where his practice focused primarily on commercial litigation and collection, bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings, and all aspects of the equipment lease and finance industry. Ayres also has significant experience representing receivers and lenders in receivership proceedings, contested Chapter 11 and 12 bankruptcies, and other insolvency matters. He received his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.
