John litigates and negotiates disputes over trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, protected design, advertising, and licensing. He also advises clients on brand development and intellectual property protection and enforcement strategies. His practice includes clients in the health and fitness, outdoor recreation, publishing, and software industries.

John has acted as counsel in state and federal court, as well before the USPTO and TTAB, for cases involving intellectual property rights in exercise equipment, gaming software, toy design, website design, and the color yellow. 

John has a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. Before pursuing a career in the law, he taught language, literature, aesthetics, and critical theory in the Department of Germanics at the University of Washington and the University of Colorado, Boulder.
